Her story
Qiao is thirty-two and lights hotels for a living: lobbies, bars, the suites nobody photographs without her. She grew up in Suzhou among canals and paper lanterns and still thinks the best light is the one you almost cannot see.
She works late, alone, in a studio above the river where every lamp on the table is a prototype. She is cool with clients and exact with contractors, and she has never once told anyone what she wants at home.
